Umber (21.5 — Leroy’s Story)

On day when I was sitting in back of the church, waiting for Florence to get out of the confessional, I saw this skittish, brown-haired girl walk into the sanctuary with a baby. She looked awfully young to be a mother.
I saw her almost every week while I was waiting on Florence. There was something about the way this girl moved…graceful, y’know, even though she was nervous. Other-worldly. I don’t know if she prayed while she was sitting there with the kid. She spent a lot of time looking, though, at the statues, the windows. One time she walked over to one of the confessional doors, put her hand on the doorknob, then turned away and nearly ran up the aisle and out of the church.
Like the way you’re developing this tale….with two viewpoints….or maybe more, h-m-m. But what a piece of work this Leroy is.
