Dipped in Bleach

October 20, 2011 § 2 Comments

Because disinfecting was her only real enthusiasm,

Her living quarters smelled ominously spotless.

Notorious for picking up after people at their own parties,

She carried a toothbrush dipped in bleach

To probe the cracks between linoleum and wall.

She squeezed moats of dish soap around her appliances,

And drained the breakfast dishes on a polished sheet of glass.

AND WHEN, FINALLY, THERE WERE NO MORE CREVICES TO INVESTIGATE AND OTHERS’ HOUSES TO COMPARE, THERE WAS ONLY LEFT THE FINAL SOLUTION, A SOLUTION ACTUALLY OF CLOROX AND WINDEX, ARTFULLY SWIRLED IN HER BEST DECANTER WITH A SPLASH OF KAHLUA TO SWEETEN THE TASTE, AND AFTER ONE LAST GLANCE TO BE SURE THE BROOM WAS PUT AWAY AND THE DISH TOWEL PROPERLY CREASED, ALIGNED PERFECTLY ON ITS ROD, OH THEN…A SIP, ANOTHER, THEN ONE GREAT GULP…AT LAST…CLEAN TO THE LAST DROP, INSIDE AND OUT.

HE HE! Paula ***Would love a sketch of this one.
