He Wished

He wished he had refused the crate.

The enormous box was a looming presence in his workspace.

Worse, whoever lived inside the crate

Began telling long and pointless anecdotes

Each evening when the sun set.

So, he altered his routine, vacuuming

And testing all his power tools and kitchen appliances

As soon as it was twilight.
