Umber (21.23 — Leroy’s Story)

May 21, 2012 § 2 Comments

I turned around and stared into Vera’s pale eyes.  She had sounded distressed, afraid that she had done something wrong by sitting in the soda fountain with another woman’s fiance.  But when she saw the look of relief on my face, her apprehension slowly melted away.  I told her I’d walk her to her sister’s house, since it was getting dark.  She told me about her mother and the rest of her family, and that she wanted to live in France.  By the time we reached the house, I had asked her out on a date.

Like I said earlier,Vera had me bewitched.  She should have known better than to get involved with me.  Father Hoolihan would have been more her type.  I was too restless.  Wanderlust in my blood.  Drove my daddy crazy.

Well, well, well! Even though forewarned on the outcome of the twinings of this totally mismatched couple, I’m still hooked. Read the last 5 all at once because I got caught up in ‘stuff’ last 2 weeks. And a new dog I rescued from certain snuffing just because she has a little neurological tweet in her wiring. Love her already and so does Pico, tho his daddy and I are working out a way for him to run, fly or drive back to MI. Anyway, I digress. Back to my ordinary life, my Isaac and Caroline who are just now learning the convenience of gas lighting in S.F., and Leroy and Vera who are every bit as colorful. Picture you now with pen in one hand, brush in another….now there’s an interesting figurative composition.

    • Hey, Paula, nice to hear from you! Hope all is well out there in the west. I am getting over a nasty flu that’s been going around; it’s the sickest I’ve been in decades. The worst is over, it’s now just a cough that goes on and on…Glad you’re enjoying my story. I’m having fun writing it, and it keeps changing as I go along. And I am so looking forward to reading your book when it’s finished…What is your new dog’s name? Good for you for rescuing her! What kind of dog is she?

Well, I have to get back to work–I have a show coming up in July, and I am so far behind! [?]
