Umber (41.1 — Kate’s Letter to Vera)

Dear Vera,

Stanley, Alfred and I are so happy to hear that you have a beautiful baby girl.  Oleander is a lovely name, and we can’t wait to meet her.  Alfred and I will be visiting Elm Creek over the holidays.  It would be so nice if we could all be together this year.  Papa is still stubborn, but if he saw your baby, he might have a change of heart.

I was so sorry to hear that your husband had such a fit when you had your little girl baptized in the Catholic Church.  Sounds like he and Papa should meet, since they seem to agree on something, at least.  Shame on both of them.
