“Oleander ran after her mother.  Father Hoolihan and I sat at the table.  To break the uncomfortable silence, I told him what the little people were planning to do to Leroy.

“Miss Vera finally came back to the table, and brought us coffee and coconut macaroons.  After awhile, she asked me if I would help Oleander get ready for bed.  I think she wanted to talk to the priest alone.
